Meets every Thursday from June 12 - August 14 from 6:30pm-7:45pm at Circus Center in San Francisco

This first-of-its-kind class at Circus Center will explore mental health and psychological flexibility through the medium of juggling. Led by Adam Brown, a psychotherapist and the head of Juggling Club, this class will prioritize experiential learning, curiosity, connection, here-and-now experience, and translating what’s learned in juggling to the rest of life. This class is open to all skill levels, including those who have never juggled before. Classes will touch on a variety of themes:
- Self-compassion vs. Self-Criticism
- Growth vs. Fixed Mindset
- “Failure” and Learning
- Mindfulness & Present Moment Awareness
- Curiosity vs. Comparison & Judgment
- Thinking vs. Doing
- Slowing Down
- Responding to Anxiety, Frustration, Hopelessness, and Anger
- Persisting in the Face of Difficulty
- Scaffolding: Starting Small and Building Gradually
- Values vs. Goals
- Community, Connection, and Accountability
- Play and Fun

These lessons and themes will be experienced while learning to juggle or improving one’s existing skills.

This class may be a good fit for students who:
- Want to try something new with the support of a community
- Feel stuck in an area of life and are curious to learn a new way of responding to difficulty
- Have a strong self-critical voice and find it holds them back
- Tend to avoid things that are difficult or give up quickly
- Are high energy and need a physical outlet
- Learn by doing, rather than through concepts, PowerPoints, books, etc.
- Work-from-home or on screens and would like to try an in-person hobby
- Identify as neurodivergent (e.g., ADHDer, Autistic, etc.)
- Are interested in juggling and find it too hard to learn on their own

While this class is focused on concepts and skills from psychology and mental health, it is not a psychotherapy group or a substitute for individual therapy. For those experiencing more severe mental health symptoms, please reach out to Adam to discuss if this class is appropriate.
